Parties

Here is a catalog of the parties we've thrown.....Enjoy!

Twins Second Birthday: Dubble Bubble, Double Trouble theme

Did a blog post about this, so I'll just link you to that:  Twins Second Birthday

SB's Third Birthday: Hand Hand Fingers Thumb theme (book by Al Perkins, a Dr. Seuss series book)

This theme was dear to me because it was SB's favorite book since the time he was a little baby. It also introduced him into drumming, which he is exceptionally talented at and very much loves. I've yet to come across anything on the internet that says this has been a party theme before...which made me feel proud as a pioneer with the theme. It also meant that everything had to be custom made by me and allowed my craftiness and creativeness to shine =) I had soooo much fun with it! And it was a blast to have it at our house because we were able to do an indoor/outdoor party (his birthday is mid-summer).

I was told by many that this looked like a "pinterest" birthday party because of the setup. Cool!!

The cake was made by our "cake lady" as she's come to be known around our family (Love of Cakes). All I did was give her the theme of the party and she created this neat cake! SB LOVED the cake and still talks about it nearly a year later!
Outside we had a slip n slide, kid sprinkler, water table, mud pies table, and kid pool set up.. Also had our shaded deck set up with chairs (also chairs throughout the yard) and had a couple tables set up with beverages (forgot to get pictures of them prior to the party!)

My Birthday Boy, SB!

Twins First Birthday: Winter One-derland Theme

By the time this birthday came around I had found some time to use my craftiness. I got tired of seeing all of the standard twin themed birthdays (need I mention the Dr. Seuss Thing 1 and Thing 2 theme?!) and really wanted something unique. Without searching the internet I came up with Winter Wonderland...due to me loving the magical feeling of winter and the song "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" I decided to go with that as a theme....little did I know that it was actually a somewhat popular theme! Darn! But I still enjoyed it as made it one-of-a-kind by creating everything on my own without using Etsy templates or store-bought stuff. Also, for the first time for a birthday party, I made my own cake...and went with cupcakes for their cake. Just easier and anything easier it well worth it (I'm awful at cutting big cakes!).
For the window decor I had my mother in law and brother in law help us cut out paper snowflakes, which we hung with fishing line from the windows in our home.
I used crepe paper to decorate the table and used Dollar Tree balloon weights plus the customized cutouts I made in Microsoft Power Point.
I made tissue paper "flowers" as decor and also some Epsom salt covered glassware that I filled with tea light candles.

Instead of a digital picture frame I printed off monthly pictures of their first year and hung them on fishing line with clothing pins. I also made the cutouts myself, using Microsoft Power Point.
We did a table for sweets and then in the kitchen we served "Eskimo Soup" and bread plus a few other things I totally forget. I had food labels for everything and made up winter-themed names for all of the food. It was so cute! A favorite was "Penguin Poop" which were peppermint meringues :-)
Okay, so I had totally forgot to take pictures of our table set ups...so these were taken during the party and aren't very good pictures...but I think you get the idea. What I learned from this party was that the set up needs to happen the night before, along with the pictures. Also, before the party starts, I need to get pictures of all of the food that is laid out. I put much effort into the party (over the span of a month) and you can't tell because there aren't any pictures of the detail I put into it! Oh well! Lesson learned :-)

SB's Second Birthday: Toy Story Theme

SB became obsessed with Toy Story, so it just seemed right to do that as the theme. He was very happy with it! This one we hosted at our home (which was soooo small!) and it turned out great. The cake was made and designed by Love of Cakes, and I couldn't have been happier with the results! We set up just one table for the party and did the typical Toy Story decor that we bought from the store. I had just had the twins a few months prior and didn't have time to do more than store-bought decor, but I was pleased with the turn out. We served food based on SB's favorites at the time since it was HIS party and he's always been a very picky eater. I also included the digital picture frame which had pictures of the last year for SB.

SB's First Birthday: Beach Bear Theme

This was the first birthday party we ever threw since this was our first born's first birthday. We were rookies and not sure what we were doing! The idea was to have a nice park party BBQ and then go swimming at the park's pool. It was fun, but it was very hot outside which kept nearly everyone under the pavilion. We served BBQ pulled pork, coleslaw, and fruit salad as the meal and ordered our cake from Indy Cakes; they did a great job! The smash cake was a fish cake, which was soooo cute! SB just wasn't into the whole cake thing, but I hear a lot of kids are like that on their first birthdays. I also included his first birthday pictures and a digital picture frame that chronicled his first year of life. I think if we could do it over again we would've had it at our house and not done a destination party. It's just so difficult to set up on the spot like that and keep ice cream frozen...and to keep a 1 year old from getting fed up with the whole thing.
